Nationwide LTL Freight from Ontario, CA
Less-than-truckload shipping through a vetted partner carrier network, booked and tracked on the same platform as our local fleet — so your visibility does not change when the freight leaves Southern California.

One platform, two kinds of capacity
DirectXpress holds freight broker authority alongside motor carrier authority. In practice that means a shipment leaving an Ontario or Inland Empire warehouse can be picked up on our own truck and handed to a vetted partner LTL carrier for the long leg — on one order record, one set of status milestones and one invoice.
The alternative most shippers live with is a broker who never touches the freight and a carrier who never sees the customer. Here the local leg, the line haul and the delivery appointment are the same file.
What moves as LTL
- Palletized and crated freight above parcel weight — our core band is 150 to 1,500 lb, and we handle heavier multi-pallet loads as well
- Stock transfers and interstate moves between warehouses
- Regional warehouse replenishment and cross-dock legs
- Overflow from a same-day or final mile program that has outgrown its region
Carrier selection is a decision, not a default
Each order is evaluated on service level, geography, equipment and timing, then assigned to DX capacity or a qualified partner carrier — whichever serves the lane best. Documentation and proof-of-delivery standards apply network-wide, so a partner-carried shipment produces the same record as one we drive ourselves. How that works end to end is on our technology page, and the partner side is on our carrier network page.
Why ship LTL out of the Inland Empire
Ontario sits in the middle of Southern California’s import and distribution belt. For importers and distributors, that means the first leg out of a bonded or import warehouse is short, and the consolidation decision — full local truck, partial load or LTL — is worth making per lane rather than per shipment.
We will price both ways. If the lane is dense enough for a dedicated route, we will tell you. If a shipment genuinely needs to be there today, that is a same-day run, not an LTL booking.
Getting a real number
There is no published rate table. LTL prices from lane, weight, dimensions, freight characteristics, service level and accessorials. Send a lane list or a week of representative shipments and we will show you how each would be quoted, dispatched, tracked and invoiced: request a quote.
Frequently asked questions
- Is DirectXpress an LTL carrier or an LTL broker?
- Both roles are in play. DirectXpress holds motor carrier authority and runs its own trucks for local pickup, same-day and final mile work, and holds freight broker authority to place nationwide LTL with vetted partner carriers. Both move on one platform and one invoice.
- What is the difference between LTL and final mile delivery?
- LTL is the line haul — your freight shares a trailer with other shippers between terminals. Final mile is the last leg to the actual receiver, with appointments, liftgate, inside placement and proof of delivery. Many programs need both, and we run them as one file.
- How small can an LTL shipment be?
- Our core band starts around 150 lb, where parcel networks stop being a good fit for palletized or crated goods. Lighter freight ships fine when it travels with the rest of your volume.
- Do I get the same tracking on partner-carrier shipments?
- Yes — that is the point of running one platform. Consistent status milestones, documentation and POD standards apply network-wide, regardless of who drives the load.
- Where do you pick up in Southern California?
- Our own fleet covers Ontario and the Inland Empire, Los Angeles County and Orange County. Pickups outside those regions are arranged through the partner network.
